Biography
José Miguel holds a Ph.D and an M.A. in Spanish from Penn State. He is passionate about teaching language, literature, and culture, and is also working on narratives of childhood and identity in Latin America and Latinx subjects in the US. His dissertation focuses on liminal spaces between childhood and adulthood in novels by Clarice Lispector, Reinaldo Arenas, Albalucía Ángel, and Tununa Mercado. His work has explored connections between Latin American literature, childhood and Bildungsroman narratives, gender, sexuality, race, and the politics of representation. He also intends to explore cinema and telenovelas in the future.
