Biography:

Deena is an Associate Research Professor and Senior Instructional Consultant with a specialization in technology pedagogy at the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence. Currently, she facilitates faculty development workshops and short courses, designs learning experiences, and consults on college teaching, course design, global & intercultural learning, and related topics. She additionally teaches online faculty development courses on online teaching for Penn State’s World Campus Faculty Development unit, co-facilitates the Global Learning Faculty Fellows program with colleagues in EPPIC & Penn State Global,  and sits on the advisory board for Penn State’s Center for Language Acquisition.

Deena is an Italianist, and served as faculty in the Italian program in the Department of Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese at Penn State from 2010-2016.  She has taught upper & lower division language, literature, culture, and honors courses, both online and face to face, in the Italian programs at Penn State and, previously, at Rutgers University. Her professional experience also includes facilitation and instruction on education abroad programs. Deena’s professional interests lie in learning experience design and development, language learning and teaching, global learning, the study of autobiographical writing, and women in the Italian Resistance. Deena is an ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) certified OPI & OPIc rater, and has been working in oral proficiency assessment with Language Testing International (LTI) for over 16 years.
