Ana Romañach Álvarez

I am a PhD Candidate in Spanish and Language Sciences at Penn State. The scientific literature overwhelmingly views codeswitching as costly and effortful. I first became interested in the scientific study of bilingualism because of its contrast with my experience as a codeswitching bilingual, where it is easy and comfortable. The bilingual paradox still drives my research to this day. I am also interested by variation in Spanish-English codeswitching across bilingual communities. In my free time, I’m usually reading, cooking, or enjoying time with friends and family.
