Biography:

Josue Ku Gallegos is a graduate teaching assistant in the Spanish, Italian and Portuguese Department. He holds a master’s degree in Hispanic Studies from Western Michigan University and another master’s degree in Latin American Studies from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He also received a bachelor’s degree in Latin American Literature from the Autonomous University of Yucatán in México.  He has combined his professional career with gender and queer activism in México, collaborating in the community through different initiatives such as the Seminario de estudios CUIR at UNAM and the group of trans women sex workers in México City. Since 2016, He has been participating in the voguing culture in Mexico City and São Paulo, Brazil. In the academic field, Josue has researched on an HIV/AIDS aesthetic in the Queer Puerto Rican Literature and Arts. He worked with a group of Mexican scholars dedicated to the Caribbean Studies on the project “Anti-colonialism in the Caribbean” in the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies at UNAM. At the same time, He was a member of the Committee for Translinguistic Exchange and Translation in the Caribbean Studies Association (https://www.caribbeanstudiesassociation.org/csa-committees/comite-de-traduction-et-echange-multilingue/). Josue has been working for five years as a lead Spanish Instructor at the CIEE Yucatán Center. He has received professional development in second language acquisition, specifically in Immersion contexts. He loves teaching Mexican Spanish Language and Culture.
