Departmental Awards
Jesús Díaz Award (Spring)
This award honors the memory of Jesus Vicente Diaz Ruiz and is presented each spring to a graduate student in the Department of Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese who demonstrates outstanding achievement in service, teaching, and academics. Selection is based on active participation in departmental activities—such as lectures, committee and/or editorial work, and colloquia—as well as academic performance, including cumulative GPA and SEEQ scores.
Jesús Díaz Award
Selected by the graduate committee; notified by the chair of the graduate committee. Graduate AA (position currently occupied by Heather Rutten) writes to the chair of the Graduate Committee (now Matthew Marr occupies that position) to request information.
SIP Department Sparks Fellow Award (Fall and Spring)
This fellowship is awarded to one graduate student each semester. The fellowship releases the award recipient from teaching responsibilities, allowing them to focus more fully on their doctoral research. Exceptional SEEQ evaluations and a 3.5 or higher grade-point average are key factors to be considered in determining eligibility for this award.
