María Izquierdo has a B.S. in Biology, a year and a half in medical school, an M.A. in Creative Writing, and a Ph.D. in Spanish. She teaches Spanish Basic Language, Intermediate, and Advanced courses in Spanish at Penn State. Also she supervises World Campus courses in basic Spanish. Her research interests revolve around disability, performance, biopolitics, and bioethics in Anglo and Hispanic contexts. This research, in addition to her diverse educational background and mixed Puerto Rican-Cuban heritage, inform the courses she teaches.
