Lily Ryan

Lily Ryan received her PhD in Latin American, Iberian and Latino Cultures from the Graduate Center, CUNY in 2020. Her research focuses on visual studies in Latin America from the 19^th century to the present. Specifically, she looks at the intersections between photography, literature, and cinema, with attention paid to porous divisions between Mexican nonfiction and fiction. Her research is enriched by participation in conferences and her progression as a teacher of Latin American, Iberian, and Latino studies and Spanish language pedagogy. From 2017 to the present, she has consistently participated in regional and global conferences, with regular attendance at the Latin American Studies Association annual congress. In addition to including multimedia texts in her Spanish language classes, her course repertoire has grown to include a new special topics course, “Reenactment, Representation, and Revolution in Latin America: 1910-present,” which was offered for the first time at Penn State University during the spring 2022 semester.
