Biography:

Esther Yáñez is a Lecturer of Spanish specializing in Translation and Interpreting. She earned an M.A. in Medical Translation and a B.A. in Translation and Interpreting Studies from Universitat Jaume I, Spain, and an M.A. in Spanish Literature and Linguistics from West Virginia University. She has taught at Penn State University since 2016, including basic and advanced language courses, translation and interpretation.

Prior to that she worked as a translator and interpreter for different agencies in Spain and the EU. She has translated and subtitled multiple films for international film festivals, and she has dubbed several series and documentaries for Discovery Channel. Her working languages are Spanish, Catalan, English, German and Italian.

Also in Spain, she worked as an interpreter for the police precinct of Valencia, and for the Master in International Peace, Conflict and Development Studies at Universitat Jaume I, recognized as a UNESCO Chair of Philosophy for Peace.

Currently, she is finishing her Ph.D. in Applied Languages, Literatures and Translation at Universitat Jaume I. Her research focuses on the use of different modes of Audiovisual Translation (Subtitling, Dubbing, Subtitling for the Deaf, and Audio Description for the Blind) as an instructional tool in the Foreign Language classroom.
