Biography:

Esther Yáñez is a Lecturer of Spanish specializing in Translation and Interpreting. She earned an M.A. in Medical Translation and a B.A. in Translation and Interpreting Studies from Universitat Jaume I, Spain, and an M.A. in Spanish Literature and Linguistics from West Virginia University. She has taught at Penn State University since 2016, including basic and advanced language courses, translation, and interpretation.

Prior to that she worked as a translator and interpreter for different agencies in Spain and the EU. She has translated and subtitled over a hundred films for European film festivals, and she has dubbed several series and documentaries for Discovery Channel. Her working languages are Spanish, Catalan, English, German and Italian.

Also, in Spain, she worked as an interpreter for the police precinct of Valencia, and for the International Master's in Peace, Conflict and Development Studies at Universitat Jaume I, recognized as a UNESCO Chair of Philosophy for Peace.

Currently, she is a Ph.D. candidate in Applied Languages, Literatures and Translation at Universitat Jaume I. Her research focuses on Language Teaching and Learning, Translation and Interpreting Studies, and Audiovisual Translation (Subtitling, Dubbing, Subtitling for the Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing, and Audio Description for the Blind or Visually Impaired).
