Taught in Spanish - This course is required for the Spanish major and counts toward the Spanish minor. Through hands-on activities, students discover how the scientific study of Spanish reveals the patterns and principles that underlie the language. The course explores Spanish varieties, pronunciation, and linguistic structure while introducing the methods used to study language scientifically. Students also examine parallels between biodiversity and linguistic diversity, and evaluate the potential of artificial intelligence for the learning, documentation, and preservation of Spanish varieties. Students are not required to purchase a book for this course. All materials will be posted on CANVAS.
