All students wishing to complete a Spanish Minor must take a minimum of 18 credit hours of Spanish at the Spanish 100 level and higher. 


Required Courses:

  • Spanish 100A* 
  • Spanish 301 
  • Spanish 215 or 253W

Please be aware that Spanish 100A is the prerequisite for Spanish 301.  These courses will have to be taken over two separate semesters.  They cannot be taken simultaneously.

  • SPAN 353 - Survey of Spanish Literature Before 1700
  • SPAN 354 - Survey of Spanish Literature Since 1700
  • SPAN 355 - Survey of Spanish American Literature through “Modernismo”
  • SPAN 356 - Survey of Spanish American Literature after “Modernismo” 
  • SPAN 412 - Translation 
  • SPAN 413 - Intepretation
  • SPAN 418 - Evolution of Spanish
  • SPAN 420 - Spanish for Business & International Trade 
  • SPAN 439 - Don Quijote
  • SPAN 440 - Teaching Romance Languages 
  • SPAN 472 - Contemporary Spanish American Novel 
  • SPAN 476 - Masterpieces of Spanish American Lit.
  • SPAN 490 - Masterpieces of Spanish Prose 
  • SPAN 491 - Masterpieces of Spanish Drama and Poetry
  • SPAN 497 - Special Topics (Linguistics, Literature or Culture)

SPAN 199, 299, 399 and 499 (Study Abroad Spanish) and SPAN 197, 297, 397 and 497 (Special Topics Courses) may also be applied to the Spanish minor and will be substituted for the appropriate course by the Spanish minor advisor.  All courses taken abroad must be taught in Spanish

NOTE: Spanish 130, 131, 230, 231 and any course that does not require knowledge of Spanish DO NOT count toward the Spanish minor.
