Marie Speicher
Ph.D. and MA in Spanish linguistics (Penn State University); B.A. in Spanish and English (Penn State University)
Dr. Speicher teaches courses in Spanish linguistics and translation. Before coming to Penn State in 1995, she was a Department of Defense translator and interpreter and later taught Spanish and Italian in Pennsylvania public schools.
She is the recipient of several awards at Penn State, including the Award for the Outstanding Adult Student in Higher Education in the State of Pennsylvania; the Award for Outstanding Teaching by Non-Tenure Line Faculty, College of Liberal Arts; and Award for Outstanding Woman Faculty Member, Interfraternity and Pan Hellenic Councils.
This year she was selected by student ballot as one of only six faculty members to the Homecoming Faculty Court.
Among her publications are Pen Portraits of Illustrious Castilians. English translation and scholarly edition of Generaciones y Semblanzas by Fernán Pérez de Guzmán (Catholic U Press, 2003), Co-translator, Loretta Zehngut, and “Foolish Fancies? Maybe Not. Melancholy in the Characters of La Diana” (Romance Notes, Fall 1998.)
