Alejandra is a first generation student in the MA/PhD program in Spanish literature.  She is originally from Long Beach, CA, and obtained her Bachelor’s degree at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2015 (Spanish/ Latin American and Iberian Studies). Her research interests include 19th Century Spanish American women writers, 20th Century Mexican literature, Nahuatl language, and feminist and gender theories.

During her undergrad years, Alejandra had the opportunity of studying in Madrid and Mexico City.  Although she once dreamt of leaving her studies to become a professional Mexican folk dancer, her time abroad further nourished her desire to pursue a career teaching Spanish literature.  When not reading, Alejandra enjoys dancing, cooking, listening to Carla Morrison, and following the latest fashion and makeup trends.
